The Sedgwick County Health Department and community partners gathered baseline data to develop a framework of action to improve perinatal mental health services for low-income women in Sedgwick County. During the planning phase, the team created opportunities for primary care providers, mental health providers and pregnant or recently delivered women to share their lived experiences about barriers and how to best address them. Action steps recommended by the workgroup include providing information about services, modifying access, barriers and opportunities, and modifying policies and broader systems to assure more equal access to needed perinatal mental health services.
